Dr Amen Sibtain

Consultant Clinical Oncologist

Dr Amen Sibtain MD MRCP FRCR specialises in the treatment of Gastrointestinal, Hepatobiliary and Head and Neck cancers. He has particular expertise in chemoradiotherapy, new radiotherapy techniques, including Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy, Gamma Knife Radiosurgery and is an early adopter of the Cyberknife.

Dr Sibtain worked at the Royal Marsden, Mount Vernon and The Middlesex Hospitals before he was appointed to Barts. He was awarded his MD degree from the University of London for research in tumour hypoxia.

He is a Past President of the Oncology Section of the Royal Society of Medicine, an examiner in oncology for the Royal College of Radiologists, oncology advisor for BBC Drama, a member of the medical advisory panel for Cancer Backup, Programme Director for Clinical Oncology Specialist Training Committee for the London Deanery, Chairman of the Head and Neck Tumour Board for North East London, and the Clinical Lead in Head and Neck Cancer at Barts.

He has edited the book ‘Towards the Prevention of Cancer’, published in November 2007 by the RSM press.

Mr Norman Waterhouse

Norman Waterhouse graduated from Birmingham University Medical School in 1978. After four years of training in general surgery he qualified as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in 1982. His higher surgical training in Plastic Surgery was carried out in Bristol and London as well as periods spent at specialist centres in Bordeaux, Adelaide and Tokyo. In 1988 he completed his accreditation and gained the Specialist Fellowship in Plastic Surgery (FRCS Plas).

Following this specialist accreditation, his first appointment as Consultant in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery was to St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London Hospitals. He has since been appointed as Consultant to the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital where he leads the specialist Craniofacial Unit treating all forms of facial conditions. Facial surgery constitutes his special interest in his NHS practice whilst in private practice he undertakes all aspects of cosmetic surgery in addition to Reconstructive and Craniofacial surgery.

He has published over forty papers in the medical literature and has an active research and teaching programme in his NHS practice. He supervises undergraduate degree courses in conjunction with Imperial College of Science, Technology & Medicine. He lectures nationally and internationally and teaches techniques of modern cosmetic surgery including endoscopic (keyhole) surgery, on courses both in England and Europe. Since 1996 he has organised the Annual Instructional Course in Cosmetic Surgery at the Wellington Hospital. Overseas projects include lecturing and treating children with facial conditions in Sri Lanka, Ghana, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

He is a full member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), the European Craniofacial Society, the International Society of Craniofacial Surgery and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. He is a former President of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS). He is included in the specialist register established by the GMC in 1995, and is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of British Journal of Plastic Surgery.

Dr Speed plays a significant role in the care of Olympic and other elite athletes. She has a special expertise in the management of sporting and non-sporting musculoskeletal injuries and chronic pain syndromes plus a specialist interest in arthritis and in exercise medicine. She has a special interest in tendon and other soft tissue injuries and in diagnostic ultrasound. She applies advanced diagnostic techniques, in particular imaging and biomechanical assessments, in the evaluation of medical complaints. She is widely published and is the author of textbooks on soft tissue and sports injuries.

Dr Speed also utilises therapies including various injection therapies, extracorporeal shock wave therapy and forms of exercise and rehabilitation in managing problems. She also has a background in exercise physiology and has an Exercise Prescription Clinic for the development of customised exercise and or training programmes to suit all types of individual, from the sedentary to the fit athlete.
